I think closing is a very natural gesture on Win8, kind of like your just throwing the app away. Wouldn't it have been nicer to have a quick way to close all the windows within a single click? Sending me back to the desktop when I close a modern app creates extra steps. I don't expect we are supposed to use Task Manager to close it.
